House

What is HUD House about ?

HUD House is a journal recounting the purchase and renovation of a foreclosed, as-is house bought from the Department of Housing & Urban Development.

Inserts throughout the book highlight issues that arose during various phases of the project:

Purchase:       Do you need a lawyer?

Renovation:     What tasks are needed to repair each room?

Decoration:      Can you really phone a mattress?

Who would be interested in HUD House?

* Families who receive an inheritance but who want to invest only some of it for a down  payment on a house while keeping some for improvements.  In that way they can get a better house and continue to make mortgage payments that are in keeping with their usual income.

* Workers who obtain jobs such as defense work, political work or fad industry jobs that will pay well only for a while.  They can buy fixer-upper housing in upscale areas and continue to live there even after the inflated phase of their work has passed.

* Young People who can start in a modest house and use their increasing income to improve that house as time goes by.
